The DOTS Unit is a specialized clinical and public health division dedicated to the diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of tuberculosis (TB) cases, operating under the framework of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) DOTS strategy. The unit ensures adherence to standardized treatment regimens through supervised therapy, aiming to reduce TB incidence, transmission, and drug resistance within the community. Core Functions Case Detection and Diagnosis: Identification of pulmonary and extrapulmonary TB cases through sputum microscopy, GeneXpert testing, chest radiography, and clinical evaluation. Directly Observed Therapy: Supervised administration of anti-tubercular drugs to ensure full compliance and completion of treatment courses. Patient Counseling and Education: Providing information on TB transmission, medication adherence, side effect management, and stigma reduction. Treatment Monitoring and Follow-Up: Regular clinical assessment and laboratory testing to evaluate treatment response and manage adverse drug reactions. Data Reporting and Surveillance: Accurate recording of case data, treatment outcomes, and reporting to national TB control programs and health authorities.
