Kageshwori Manohara Municipal Hospital, located in the northeastern part of Kathmandu Valley, began its journey as the Mulpani Sub-Health Post in 2052 B.S., established to provide essential primary healthcare services to the local community. Recognizing the growing healthcare demands, it was upgraded to a Primary Health Center in 2053 B.S. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the need for expanded clinical capacity, the institution was further developed into a 15-bed hospital in 2059 B.S., playing a pivotal role in managing the crisis at the local level.
With continuous infrastructure development and expansion of clinical services, the facility was officially designated as Kageshwori Manohara Municipal Hospital. It now functions as a comprehensive urban health institution, delivering essential and specialized services to not only residents of the municipality but also patients from surrounding areas including Bhaktapur, Sindhupalchowk, Shankharapur, and Gokarneshwor.
Kageshwori Manohara Municipal Hospital currently operates with a team of 186 staff members, including 16 specialized consultants and 13 medical officers, supported by dedicated nursing, administrative, and support personnel.
The hospital provides a wide range of clinical and public health services. Its Outpatient Department (OPD) functions daily from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, serving an average of 1,000 patients per day. Diagnostic services have significantly expanded, with a state-of-the-art laboratory operated in partnership with the private sector, delivering over 200–250 tests daily. Radiological services, supported by modern imaging equipment, serve approximately 200 clients daily under expert supervision.
Core services include 24/7 emergency and inpatient care, comprehensive pharmacy services, physiotherapy, maternal and child health care, surgical referrals, and ambulance and body transport services. The hospital also offers consultation in multiple disciplines including internal medicine, pediatrics, gynecology, dermatology, ENT, psychiatry, orthopedics, dentistry, cardiology, and urology.
The hospital’s pharmacy operates round the clock, ensuring the availability of essential medicines, including those under the National Health Insurance Scheme, with an additional 10% discount for all service users. Through its Social Service Unit, the hospital guarantees free treatment and medication for underprivileged, differently-abled, and unaccompanied patients.
As part of its preventive and promotive health strategy, the hospital conducts regular community-based programs such as senior citizen health camps, maternal and reproductive health outreach, postnatal care home visits, school health initiatives, and mobile clinics, in close coordination with municipal wards and local stakeholders. The hospital also implements all national vertical programs, contributing TB control, nutrition and non-communicable disease prevention At present, over 60% of the hospital’s patients are enrolled in the National Health Insurance Program, underlining its growing role as an accessible and affordable healthcare provider.
